A taster event at Grimsby Leisure Centre on Wednesday, April 29, will inspire people with any type of disability to try out a new sport.
Lincs Inspire Ltd and the Care Plus Group regularly join forces to provide an action-packed day of multi-sports catering for all levels of ability in a bid to get more people with disabilities enjoying physical activity.
The type of activity includes adapted cycling, trampolining, table tennis, gymnastics, dance use of the inclusive gym recently launched and the toning suite. Ice skating takes place from 10:30am, swimming from 10:30am to 12 noon and from 1pm to 2:30pm.
Ben Frary, Lincs Inspire’s disability sports coordinator, said:
These sessions give us an opportunity to help individuals work together, be active and have fun. The diverse range of activities provided means they can try out all sorts of sports, giving them a real choice in how they want to be active.
The session runs from 9:30am to 3pm and everyone is welcome, be it individuals and their carers, families, school groups or those from care homes. Entry is £5 per person with carers attending for free.
Sue Over, Care Plus Group’s superintendent physiotherapist for the community learning disability team, said: “These sports taster days are enjoyed by lots of different people with disabilities. It’s amazing what people can achieve when they are having fun with their friends.
Our coaches and staff will help you to try out activities that you wouldn’t dream you could achieve. Come and join us!
Refreshments are also available. There’s no need to book any activity, just turn up and try as many as you can. If a person needs one-to-one assistance then a carer must be present with them.
Free parking is available. Access is currently via the Grimsby Auditorium car park entrance on Cromwell Road due to on-going construction works for the new leisure facility.
