Last week, the local O’Callaghan-Bowskill family took part in a challenge to become the UK’s savviest family
They visited the Lincoln branch of Sainsbury’s on Thursday 17th April, where store manager Lee Musson presented them with a hamper of products from the retailer’s basics range, which they used as part of a wider six week Nectar Savvy Family competition. They were selected as one of eight finalist families from all over the UK to showcase their best money-saving savviness through their blog savvyblog.nectar.com/index.php/the-o-callaghan-bowskill-family and be in with a chance of winning a £10,000 prize package.
The challenge, set by Sainsbury’s, is to provide evening meals for their family of two for a whole week using only the basics products provided for just over £20 and their inventive cookery know-how. The products ranged from staples such as eggs and pasta to houmous, natural yoghurt and prawns. Throughout the week, they will blog about their experience and the recipes they’ve created.
Earlier this year, Nectar launched its six week annual money-saving advice competition – Nectar Savvy Family – to encourage the nation to act smarter when it comes to saving and spending. Each week sees a new challenge set by one of Nectar’s partners with themes ranging from holidays, hobbies and recycling to cooking and DIY.
Karen O’Callaghan Bowskill said: “With our basics food pack this week we hope to inspire others with our creativity that no matter what your budget you can create lovely meals”
Sainsbury’s Lincoln Store Manager Lee Musson said: “It was great to be involved in preparing the family for their challenge week and we’re delighted to spread the word about how you can save money using products from the basics range. We’re all behind them to win!”
Last week’s challenge saw the family successfully prepare and enjoy seven great meals using their set list of basics products provided by their local Sainsbury’s. This included ‘Beef Arrabiata & Pasta’ on Thursday 24th April, while they finished the challenge on Sunday by making ‘Fish Parcels with Mustard Sauce’.
The Nectar judges, including TV property presenter, Sarah Beeny, will announce the winning family later this month.
