Mark is all aboard for promotion

After only four months employment at local bus operator, Stagecoach North East, Northumbrian University graduate Mark Middleton has been promoted to the position of marketing assistant.

24-year old Mark, from Seaburn in Sunderland, impressed the commercial and marketing team with his marketing skills and customer focus, when he was employed in December 2013 as a Customer Communications Assistant. As part of this role, Mark was involved in the region-wide rollout of the local bus company’s Twitter page, and managed the social media platform on a daily basis.
Through this experience, Mark was able to develop his marketing expertise and knowledge of the company and is now able to transfer the skills gained to his new role.
As marketing assistant, Mark is involved in all aspects of delivering the company’s marketing strategy, including public relations, advertising, social media, research and customer relations. He works closely with the marketing manager to support the marketing and commercial department, planning and delivering communications campaigns and liaising with external agencies.
Before working at Stagecoach North East, Mark gained experience of customer relations and marketing at roles in Waitrose as customer services assistant, and a marketing administrator at Megabus UK, a Stagecoach-owned company.
Mark, a recent graduate from Northumbria University with an honours degree in Business with Marketing is very excited at his new role. He said: “Working with the commercial and depot management teams in my previous role at Stagecoach has provided invaluable support for this new role, as well as a wealth of industry-specific knowledge that I could not otherwise have learned. I look forward to continuing my development with the marketing team and applying my marketing education in a practical way.
“My various roles within the Group have helped my industry knowledge to become stronger and I hope that this can continue, helping to make me an important part of the team. My role will come with new challenges and more varied responsibilities; I am particularly keen to see a campaign develop, under my own administration, until its successful completion.
“It is a great time to be part of Stagecoach North East, as change and investment have become integral to its recent success. With campaigns like the introduction of Gas Buses and Smart technology, it’s really exciting to get more involved.”

I’m looking forward to making the most of his experience with online platforms as we explore new digital marketing opportunities.”
Mark is planning to develop his knowledge and learning further, undertaking additional marketing qualifications to enhance his existing skills that he can apply in his new role.
Away from the office, Mark enjoys playing football, playing guitar and is a keen supporter of Sunderland AFC.
