Situated in the centre of Lincolnshire, Riseholme College of Further Education specialises in agriculture, horticulture, animal and equine training and education.
Students have access to a range of modern learning facilities and accommodation on campus. Courses have been developed to meet the demands of the rapidly changing rural economy and emphasis is placed on hands-on, practical learning. Excellent links within industry provide students with real life work experience, which in turn gives them the edge when finding employment.
Riseholme is a part of Bishop Burton College, one of the country’s finest land-based colleges with a national reputation for quality. Bishop Burton is the only College in the UK to hold Centre of Vocational Excellence status in both Agriculture and Equine and recently won an AoC Beacon Award for Practical Teaching and Learning in Agriculture.
Alex Ollivant is studying a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Agriculture and despite growing up on a farm, needed a bit of encouragement from her parents when considering her options after GCSE. A visit to a Riseholme Open Day changed her mind and she is confident she made the right decision, saying, “Whilst exploring alternative options to A-Levels, I visited Riseholme for an open day and fell in love with the picturesque campus.
“I love the outdoorsy aspect of my course and mixing with likeminded people. I grew up on a farm, but I still feel I’ve learnt so much from studying agriculture. As well as the theory, we’ve had the opportunity to get plenty of practical experience, in a safe, supportive environment.
“I’ve been able to help out more at home, although my Dad still keeps an eye on me!”
