The Orders of St John Care Trust recently held its annual Trust Awards ceremony, recognising five care workers in Lincolnshire for their dedication, hard work and exceptional achievements.

As part of the event, which took place on 9th November at Cheltenham Park Hotel in Gloucestershire, Don Wood CBE, OSJCT’s Chairman of Trustees presented this year’s recipients with the Chairman’s Commendation award for meritorious service.

This year’s Lincolnshire recipients were:

Elaine Whittle, Home Manager from Southfield House in Spalding

Elaine began her career with the Trust in 2009 as a relief carer, and, during her time with the Trust, has held several positions at Southfield House. In June 2015, she successfully gained promotion to Head of Care and, in August 2015, the Home Manager became unwell. Elaine was asked if she would step into the role of Acting Home Manager, to which she has shown great dedication and professionalism. She supports the residents, their families and the team to ensure that excellent outcomes are achieved for all. Elaine has benefited from the support of her team and the wider operations team on her personal journey into the role of Home Manager. She shows great calmness and integrity in anything she takes on and her confidence and knowledge has grown tremendously over the years. Elaine has now taken on the role as permanent Manager at the home.

Sarah Johnson, Senior Carer from Patchett Lodge in Holbeach

Sarah has been with the Trust for eleven years, initially as evening Care Assistant, before becoming a Senior Carer in 2014. Over the last year, Sarah has developed herself into a capable and confident Senior Carer who takes pride in her work. Additionally, Sarah is the home’s Dementia Lead and has taken on this role with enthusiasm and positivity. She also has a keen interest in medications, recently becoming a PDP (Principal Designated Person).

Joanne Johnson, Head of Care from Boultham Park House in Lincoln

Jo started with the Trust in March 2003, initially as Night Carer, and then became a senior in 2014 as Head of Care at Boultham Park House. Jo is passionate about the home and residents of Boultham Park House and works to improve their lives. Jo is always keen to improve the service offered to residents and is always willing to learn and develop her knowledge and share it with others.

Debbie Oliver, Senior Carer from Boultham Park House in Lincoln

Debbie has worked for the Trust since March 2003, initially as a carer before becoming a senior. Debbie is the moving and handling trainer in the home and is passionate about training and supporting her team in the correct way to move the residents in the home. Debbie gives her time and knowledge to her team at Boultham Park House and has, on numerous occasions, gone to other homes to conduct training. She will never say no and will change her plans to ensure others get the training they need.

Wendy Cyprus, Head of Care from Foxby Court in Gainsborough

An employee of OSJCT since 2005, Wendy has supported Foxby Court in her new role as Head of Care, and also in the absence of her manager. She has embraced the new procedures for recruitment and resident contracts and managed these effectively, being an ambassador for the positive in the new initiatives. Wendy always goes the extra mile.

Caroline Dunagan, OSJCT Assistant Operations Director for Lincolnshire, said:

Every single one of our employees works extremely hard throughout the year delivering and maintaining the best standard of care to our residents. This special Trust awards ceremony is the perfect occasion for us to shine the spotlight on our very own stars and recognise those colleagues who have really stood out during the last 12 months. It is great to be able to celebrate the exceptional commitment and commend their hard work at such an important and prestigious event.
