Over £42,000 has been granted from the British Steel Support Fund to two businesses in North Lincolnshire, RJ Engineering and UK Container Repair Ltd, to support development and the creation of five new jobs.
The £3m British Steel Support Fund was provided by the Government following the announcement of job losses at Tata Steel in Scunthorpe in 2015. The funding is available until March 2018.
So far 11 businesses have been awarded grants from the British Steel Support Fund; this is a total of £1.76m.
RJ Engineering, an engineering design service for the process industry and building services sector based Waters’ Edge in Barton, has been granted £28,146. The funding has helped them to buy 3D digital surveying equipment to enhance the services they can offer and diversify into new markets.
The funding has also enabled RJ Engineering to create three new jobs.
UK Container Repairs Ltd has been granted £14,515 to start up the business. Michael Musson set up the business that will inspect and repair shipping containers. The funding will help the business which will be located in South Killingholme purchase machinery to allow them to move, assess and repair shipping containers, as well as create two jobs.
Michael Musson said:
The prospect of owning and developing my own business has been a life-long dream, and it was only with the assistance from the British Steel Support Fund which made this possible. The funding has enabled my business to purchase a container handler, essential for carrying out the vital inspections and repairs which is core to my business
Through the British Steel Support Fund over 317 jobs are expected to be created and safeguarded, which is above the set target of 250.
