The Mariners Trust have donated £500 to Lincs Inspire Library Service to support our work with the Sporting Memories group at Waltham Library.
Sporting Memories is a national initiative supporting wellbeing through reminiscence. The group at Waltham have been meeting for over a year and have recently been working on an oral history project to record some of the memories shared during the group meetings – particularly around the amateur football leagues in this area.
Jennie Cartwright, Development Officer for Lincs Inspire Libraries, said:
On behalf of Lincs Inspire Library Service, I would like to extend our thanks to Dave Roberts and The Mariner’s Trust for their generous donation to our Sporting Memories oral history project.
Members of the group have been enjoying having their memories recorded about the local amateur football leagues and are looking forward to hearing the finished result later this year. The weekly sessions at Waltham Library provide a relaxed and informal environment in which memories of sport are shared and friendships have been established.
David Roberts, Secretary at the Mariner’s Trust, said:
We have supported Sporting Memories at a national level since it’s formation and when we heard about the local project we had no hesitation in wanting to get involved. The work they are doing is inspirational and we are proud to play a small part in this fantastic initiative.
The cheque was presented at the match between Grimsby Town and Crewe on September the 17th. Judith Sanderson and Claire Newton, were invited to attend the game and be presented with the cheque on behalf of Lincs Inspire Library service.
