RAF Air Cadets will be celebrating their 75th Anniversary at Cranwell on Saturday 13th August and will be joined by Carol Vorderman who is well known for her appearances on TV’s Countdown and science shows.
Celebrity aviator, Vorderman is ambassador to the RAF Air Cadets and an honorary group captain and has been invited as a special guest to the Cranwell base to meet the 5000 cadets from across the UK to mark the historical occasion.
The Air Training Corps was established in 1941 by royal warrant to order to train teenage boys in aviation so they could fly planes and work as engineers and in other RAF trades during the Second World War.
To prepare for the event, cadets will attend a week-long drill and ceremonial camp at Beckingham Training Camp, 10 miles from RAF Cranwell.
Joining Carol Vorderman as special guest, will be the new chief of the air force: Air Chief Marshal, Sir Stephen Hillier, a former cadet.
The historic event is to mark 75 years since the formation of the Air Training Corps and several units of the Combined Cadet Force (RAF), collectively known as the RAF Air Cadets.
The event will begin with a parade in front of the College Hall, 350 cadets will perform a spectacular hour-long drill ceremony, before musically gifted youngsters and volunteers take to the stage for the musical extravaganza with compere Peter Dickinson, voice of the X-Factor.
There will be a finale of amazing fireworks to finish off the day.
