Doddington Hall near Lincoln has partnered with leading bicycle brand Giant to add 8,300 sq.ft of cycling retail to its popular range of shops.
The innovative cycling store will offer cyclists of all ages and abilities expert advice and products as well as the opportunity to test ride bicycles. The store – which opens on Friday 16 October – will be the centre of ‘all things cycling’ in the city, helping people find their cycling adventures as well as joining store ride-outs.
Doddington Hall may have been built two hundred years before the bicycle was invented, but the Elizabethan tourist attraction has teamed up with Giant, the largest manufacturer of bicycles in the world, to create a state-of-the-art bicycle store to add to Doddington Hall’s popular line-up of award-winning shops.
The new store will offer a new and unique cycling experience, covering two floors. The store has dedicated mountain and road sections, as well as a female cyclist’s area and a section for hybrid powered electric bicycles. The road department will feature a triathlon section as well as Power Fit Giant’s professional bike fitting system that measures riding positions but also helps maximise individual power output and pedalling techniques.
The purpose-built retail space, newly-constructed where several modern farm buildings once stood, will be the hub of the cycling community and will also feature a cycling-friendly cafe.
Taiwanese-owned Giant is a global bicycle manufacturer and retailer; the Giant Store Lincoln will be latest addition to its family of branded stores. Giant-brand stores are about consumers having great riding experiences; that experience starts in the store, so Giant-brand stores offer something for everyone whatever the discipline.
The store will be close to National Cycle Routes and will appeal to all cyclists including sports competitors, weekend endurance riders, pleasure cyclists and children. James Birch, who runs the Doddington Hall estate alongside his wife Claire who are both keen cyclists commented:
The shop will be carrying a full range of products including clothing and helmets plus we will be able to carry out servicing. We have expert staff in place to offer first-hand advice due to their own love of cycling plus our unique set-up means we have space to offer off-road test tracks as well as organised cycling ride-outs.
Mark Hollingworth, general manager of Giant Store Lincoln and keen triathlete, added:
This is a very exciting project which has been a year in the planning. It is especially exciting to be working with an international brand such as Giant which, as a keen cyclist myself, I have always respected. For this project, it’s a chance to tap into their expertise and commitment to a sport which is growing in popularity due to the fun and fitness involved in taking part.
Cycling has enjoyed a growth in popularity in recent years, with the British Championships being combined with the annual Lincoln Grand Prix this summer attracting huge interest.
James Birth concluded:
I feel this is an exciting development for not only Doddington Hall but for Lincoln and the county as well. This is a chance to strengthen Lincoln’s position as a city which welcomes cyclists and cycling events. I hope this helps put Lincolnshire even more securely onto the cycling map and helps people discover that this county has a lot to offer the cyclist.
Opening on Friday 16 October 2015, the ‘Giant Store Lincoln’ will be open seven days.
