The first Food Festival of its kind will take place at the Baths Hall, Scunthorpe, on the 19th July 2015.
The TV Chef and owner of Scunthorpe restaurant Winteringham Fields Colin McGurran will be at the festival serving up complimentary food for those who attend. Speaking about the day, he said that “it is about getting people to cook” and celebrate the food and drink of Lincolnshire.
I will be cooking and judging and it is about how you can make food fun, exciting and delicious. It is about celebrating food and produce.
The day will include live cooking demonstrations, such as the omelette challenge made famous by the BBCs Saturday Morning Kitchen, where two contestants compete to cook an edible omelette in the fastest amount of time.
The organisers plan to break from tradition with this festival, focusing on the theatrics and performance aspects rather than your average food stalls. There will however be stalls at the event, selling local produce such as jams but also goods that are out of the ordinary, like edible insects.
Children can also get involved, with lessons about food sourcing and interactive opportunities. There is a competition to design the best ice cream flavour and the lucky winner will be able to make their ice cream live on stage. The competition is for under 16 year olds and all entries should be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org with your name, age and school.
So if you love your food, don’t miss out on Celebrity Chefs, insect eating and more!
