Cost of the School journey

Cost of the School journeyCaption: Walking with your children could be both a money saver and an opportunity to get out of the car and stretch your legs.

On average parents are driving 1700 miles and spending the equivalent of seven days driving their children to school each year.Research by insurer Allianz Your Cover also found that parents spend four days a year waiting to pick them up

Of the 1000 parents questioned 40% said they would ferry their children around until they pass their driving test and 19% until they leave home. Unbelievably one in 10 think they will still be acting as a taxi when their children are in their 30s and some predict they will never stop giving the their children lifts.

“It’s clear that mum and dad’s taxi service is getting UK families from A to B with these trips totalling close to 2000 miles a year. It’s clear families are depending on a regular family taxi service to help manage their busy lives”, says Jon Lott at Allianz Your cover Insurance.

With the cost of fuel and time spend driving children to school and waiting to pick them up, changing habits and walking with your children could be both a money saver and an opportunity to get out of the car and stretch your legs.
