It’s time to lace up your trainers and hit the streets – the 18th Active Nation Lincoln 10k Road Race is just around the corner.
This increasingly popular event is taking place on Sunday, April 6, and it promises to be a great day once again.
Up to 5,500 professional and fun runners will be aiming to make it to the finish line, raising thousands of pounds for charity as they go.
And that’s not all. The race weekend also includes a wheelchair race and shorter races for children aged between 9 and 14.
Whether you’re already a seasoned runner aiming for a personal best, need some motivation to get fit or just want to have a good time and raise some pennies, the Lincoln 10k is perfect for everyone.
Steve Lockwood, Leisure, Sport and City Services Manager at City of Lincoln Council, said: “As a city rich in history and heritage, Lincoln offers a real treat for professional and fun runners alike to experience a fantastic atmosphere and a spectacular finish past Lincoln’s two most iconic landmarks – the cathedral and the castle.
“From humble beginnings with just 200 runners taking part, this event has grown to attract competitors from around the world. It’s a flat route ideal for setting a personal best, and a great day out for fun runners and spectators.
“We’re pleased to be able to offer free parking, making it even easier to take part. Places fill up fast so make sure you sign up soon and don’t miss out!”
A shorter race is open to children aged between 9 and 14.
Within a week of entries opening this year more than 1,100 people had signed up to take part! If you don’t fancy the run, why not join the eager spectators who line the route to cheer on the entrants to the finish?
A survey following last year’s event estimated the race brought more than £280,000 into Lincoln’s economy, through spending on entertainment, shopping, hotels, restaurants and tourist attractions.
Lincoln 10k is supporting the charities Active Nation and the British Heart Foundation.
